The Liberals are expected to win a majority government with the three byelections taking place today.

Voters in three ridings are casting ballots on April 13. The outcome could secure a majority for the Liberals.

The Liberals have a majority government.

Scarborough Southwest has elected its Liberal candidate, Doly Begum.

University-Rosedale is leading Liberal candidate Danielle Martain with 147 of 153 polls counted.

In Terrebonne, the gap between the Bloc Québécois and the Liberals is widening; the Liberals are leading with their candidate Nathalie Sinclair-Desgagné, with 200 of 211 polls counted.

There were 43, 813 voters, nearly 48 per cent of eligible voters.

The ridings are voting to elect new representatives to their currently vacant seats.

Scarborough Southwest and University-Rosedale, both in Toronto, elected Liberals in the last election and are expected to remain Liberal.

The Liberals also won Terrebonne in Montreal by a single vote, but the Supreme Court of Canada nullified the result, forcing a byelection.

But before today's byelection, the Liberals gained seats as elected officials crossed the floor at a pace never seen before. Four Conservatives and one NDP member crossed the floor to the Liberals.

Winning the three byelections would give Mark Carney a narrow majority, making it easier to pass bills and helping them secure their position of power in the House of Commons.

The Liberals currently have 171 seats in the House of Commons and need 173 to secure an effective majority. With the tie-breaking vote of the Speaker, Francis Scarpaleggia, a Liberal, who could only vote if the House vote was tied.

The Liberals are expected to win the Ontario ridings. Terrebonne is expected to be a tight race.

Opposition leader Pierre Polievre posted on X that the Liberals won through "backroom deals."

More to come.
