Humber defeated Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU) 4-1, in a best-of-seven Midwest A, National Esports Collegiate Conference (NECC) Rocket League Division match-up.
Humber Rocket League now finishes with a 2-5 record on the season
Player Evan "Vidhawk rl" Hutt led the way for Humber with two hat-tricks. Teammate Noah "Noah1127" Mossini said this is not anything new.
“In my opinion, it's nothing out of the ordinary. This guy's the GOAT,” he said.
The first game went to Humber who came out with a strong, first-game dominating performance and scored four goals, three of them from Hutt.
The next game was a close, intense battle with Saginaw taking the victory.
Saginaw carried this momentum into the start of Game 3, scoring early, but then the tables turned.
Humber stomped on Saginaw’s great start when it scored three unanswered goals and took the win.
Coach Eric “Rice” Buchyns credited the team’s ability to play with some confidence despite some early adversity.
“But besides that, once we started playing, a little more confidently, and a little more sure of what we were doing, and especially playing more together, that's when we realized we could just get the ball wherever we wanted to go,” he said.
Humber won Games 4 and 5 and closed out the series with 5-1 victories, and Hutt secured his second hat-trick in Game 4.
Although it is Humber’s second win of the season, it will be their last as the team did not make the playoffs.
Hutt is very proud of his teammates this season and the friendships that they have made.
“I'm proud of everyone for kind of a lot of things, but mostly off the field, I think we've actually gotten to know each other, on a decent level, and that, regardless of what happens, we'll stay friends outside of Rocket League,” he said.
