The women’s Olympic hockey game between Canada and Finland, scheduled for later today has been postponed after Finland’s women’s hockey team fell ill with the norovirus.

The Finnish delegation took the ice for their afternoon practice with just eight players and two goaltenders before the game was officially called off.

The 13 others were either in quarantine or isolation due to the illness, which started to circulate through the team on Tuesday evening.

“The International Olympic Committee, the Milano Cortina 2026 Organizing Committee, the International Ice Hockey Federation, Team Finland and Team Canada confirm that the game between Team Finland and Team Canada in the women’s Olympic ice hockey competition scheduled to take place today has been postponed,” the Games organizing committee said in a statement.

The organizing committee said the decision followed consultations after the cases were identified and were made “collectively and in accordance with established health and safety principles, with the health and wellbeing of players, team staff, officials and all tournament participants as the highest priority.”

They said the rescheduled date for competition is Feb. 12 at 8:40 a.m. ET at Milano Rho Ice Hockey Arena. Quarterfinals are scheduled for Feb. 13.

The postponement gives Finland two more days of rest before their next matchup against the United States on Feb. 7 at 10:40 a.m. ET.

If today’s game were to go ahead, the Finish staff were considering a forfeit, that would hand Canada an automatic win.

Team Canada will now move on to face Switzerland this Saturday at 3:10 p.m. ET.
