Ibrahim Sabzwari has been working tiresomely to produce their best film alongside his team members.

Ibrahim Sabzwari, a third-year student in the Film and Television Production program at Humber Polytechnic’s North campus, said the COVID-19 pandemic prompted him to reconsider what he wanted to pursue.

“COVID … really forced me to consider, if I were to really spend my time doing something, what would give me the most sense of purpose,” he said.

Sabzwari said his interest in film began long before he enrolled at Humber.

“I have always loved film as a subject, as a medium, I have been editing videos since I was around ten years old,” he said.

One of the highlights of Sabzwari’s time at Humber has been the opportunity to direct a film documentary.

He said the production classes provide students with a realistic introduction to the demands of working in the film industry.

“Knowing how to be organized is a skill you cannot really develop without pressure. In the program, you will be working under high pressure and guided by industry professionals,” he said.

The project also gave Sabzwari an opportunity to explore his Pakistani and Muslim heritage through film making.

“My people don’t have a voice to control how they're perceived in the media,” he said. “Part of choosing this program is choosing to take the opportunity to learn, as to how to represent myself and the people I want to represent in the way that I want”
