Alvin Tedjo leads early in the race for mayor

Mississauga’s mayoral race was supposed to be a tightly contested three-way contest until the media declared an Alvin Tedjo victory in just 30 minutes after the polls closed.

Tedjo has just passed 68,533 votes in a landslide, with former mayor Bonnie Crombie and Incumbent Carolyn Parrish barely reaching 40,000 votes.

A 2026 Mainstreet Research poll showed Crombie leading the polls before the election with 33.6 per cent of the vote, followed by Tedjo at 28.4 per cent and Parrish in third with 26.2 per cent.

This is Tedjo's second attempt at the office, going head-to-head against Parrish in the 2024 election.

Early results in Mississauga's mayoral race show Alvin Tedjo is in the lead. Tedjo started off the race leading with 6,197 votes, with Incumbent Carolyn Parrish and Crombie behind by more than 4,000 votes, with 41 polls of 181 reporting.

And he never looked back. After 103 polls reported, Tedjo continued to lead with 36,603 votes. Carolyn Parrish was in second with 27,042, while Bonnie Crombie fell behind with 22,434 votes.

The rivalry between Parish and Crombie has played out on the debate stage, where candidates have challenged each other's records and leadership with aggressive jabs at each other.

“Our staff are terrified of the blonde bombshell coming back,” Parish said during a debate earlier in the campaign.

The race has tightened since Tedjo gained support, challenging the two leading Mississauga candidates.

Crombie served as mayor for nine years before stepping down in 2024 to lead the Ontario Liberal Party.
