Police say a stabbing at a hotel near Toronto Pearson Airport early this morning was a targeted incident between two people who know each other.
Crews were called to the Four Points by Sheraton Toronto Airport East hotel for reports of a violent incident inside the building. Police confirm that a man suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The City of Toronto confirms that this building is being used as a part of their temporary shelter system but have not confirmed if the incident is connected.
In a statement to Humber Et Cetera, Toronto Police would not provide a specific location for the incident but say “it happened inside a building” and that investigations are still underway.
A Toronto Police spokesperson said that investigators believe “the victim and suspect are known to each other and this appears to be a targeted incident.”
No suspect information has been released at this time.
Police did not have information on whether a weapon was recovered and declined to confirm details about the living situation of those involved. They also said they have no information regarding any displacement of residents or staff at the hotel.
A City of Toronto spokesperson confirmed that the hotel at 2180 Islington Ave. is currently under contract for temporary use as a part of their shelter programming to extend capacity. “The hotel at 2180 Islington Ave. is currently contracted for temporary use as a part of the City of Toronto’s shelter programming to add capacity to the system. We are aware of the incident reported at this location overnight and are working to ensure the wellbeing of staff and shelter,” Elise von Scheel said.
The city confirms that there have been no changes to the sites operations following the incident, “there have been no changes to operations at this location. Any further questions should be directed to the Toronto Police Service.”
Police say further updates will be issued through a media release and the investigation is still ongoing.
