Pan-Africanism and the Paradox of Progress: Black Self-Determination and the Limits of ‘Democracy’ in Canada and the United States
To what extent have Black people been free in Canada and the United States? Are democratic norms, such as human rights and the rule of law, meant to include Black people? In this lecture, Dr. Wendell Adjetey will examine these fundamental questions within the context of Pan-Africanism, that is, the quest to achieve a semblance of racial pride, unity, and self-determination among Black people, regardless of parochial or political differences. It will illuminate why transformative social change for Black folk in North America has proven elusive for centuries.
